has served with the Urbandale Police Department since 1991.
Promoted to Sergeant in 2008, he has supervised in the each of the department’s four divisions: Administrative Services, Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division and Support Services Division. Sergeant Simpson has also served as a Sergeant with the Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force.
Sergeant Simpson has served on the departments SWAT Emergency Response Team as a shield operator for several years and was awarded the department’s Medal of Valor in 2010. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Grandview University.
He is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
Sergeant Matt Flattery
has been with the Urbandale Police Department since February 2006. Prior to joining the Urbandale Police Department Sergeant Flattery worked for the Department of Corrections as a Residential Officer in Waterloo, Iowa.
In June of 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Patrol Division. In May of 2018 Sergeant Flattery was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division.
Since joining Urbandale Police Department Sergeant Flattery has served in the Patrol Division, Investigation Division, as well as the Support Services Division for the department. As a Detective, Sergeant Flattery served as a Narcotics Investigator with the Mid Iowa Narcotics Task Force (M.I.N.E.). Prior to being promoted Sergeant Flattery was assigned to the Urbandale high school as the School Resource Officer. Sergeant Flattery has been a member of the Suburban Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) as a shield operator and is currently a member of the Urbandale Honor Guard team.
Sergeant Flattery obtained his Associates degree Police Science from Hawkeye Community College in 2001.
